My phone rings, startling me. When I look at the screen and see Calvin’s name, I find myself letting out a little girlie squeal. “Hello, you,” I say, snuggling into my seat. “So, I wake up from an amazing sleep, look out of my window, and guess what?” he asks in a croaky voice, which sounds like he has, indeed, just woken up. “What?” “I see this beautiful girl sitting in a chair in her garden, sipping on what I assume is coffee, and I feel the need to say morning to her.” “Is that right?” I smile. “Yup.” A noise coming from the bottom of my garden startles me. When I see Calvin jump my back fence using one arm, still holding his phone in the other, I can’t believe my eyes. He smiles and briskly walks over to me. I’m stunned, the damn phone still attached to my ear. As soon as he reaches me, he bends down and plants a small kiss on my mouth. He then smiles and says, “Morning”, before turning and walking back to the fence to jump it again. I’m totally dumbstruck. Who does that? Calvin, that’s who. I laugh and shake my head, ending the call when I hear his chuckle.

Review of Cinderella live-action film

When a childhood classic is remade into a live-action film, we’re quick to assume that the movie will be a flop, because how can a classic be re-done? But if that mentality stops someone from seeing Cinderella, that would be a big mistake. This movie had everything, and more, from the original, and I enjoyed it immensely. The music was fantastic, the storyline was amazing, even with the few additions (in fact, I feel the additions only enhanced it), and the actors were perfection.

Speaking of perfection, I just loved that the fairy godmother wasn’t perfect; she was a clutz, unsure of her magic, and a big ole goof-ball! Helena Bonham Carter did such a great job of portraying her, that it was almost impossible to believe that it was the same person who played Bellatrix from Harry Potter.

I laughed, I cried, I cringed at certain … devastating … scenes, and I was even amazed at the special effects. I mean, it wasn’t that long ago that movie makers couldn’t possibly do something with a computer that put the watcher inside exploding fireworks. It was a bit slow going, but once the back story was told, it was a wonderful movie. It had dancing, singing, humor, fencing, love. This reviewer gives it an A.

My Review:

I have to admit that I wasn’t sure how I would feel at the end of this book. But let me tell you it surprised the hell out of me! I absolutely loved it with a capital L! There aren’t words grand enough to express my feelings on it. It was a fresh and fabulous book that I just couldn’t put down. Every word captivated me. Thank you, Ms. Christensen, for writing this book.

Review of Bitten (TV Show)

Okay, now that I’ve Netflix-binged on the first season of Bitten (13 episodes in two days, a total of 11.5 hours), I can review the show properly. This show was suggested to me from a friend, and now I may have to kill her for getting me addicted to a new show! I can’t believe I have to wait until 2015 for season 2! But, that aside, I really enjoyed this show for several reasons.

1) The characters are well developed and at the same time relateable… Except for their fur 😉

2) They werewolves weren’t made out to be stupid, blood thirsty animals with nothing better to do than to kill vampires. And, I swear, if vamps are introduced to this show, it will ruin everything.

3) The human dynamic. Between Elena’s boyfriend Phillip (poor guy) and Logan’s girlfriend Rachel, the sheriff, and even Clay’s old students, the writers are careful to show the relationship between the two species.

4) The fight scenes. They aren’t some glorified hollywood wrestling match. They actually look like two people fighting for their lives. Granted, the characters are well trained in the area, but that only adds to the amazing fight scenes.

5) And, lastly, the romance. It’s not all flowers and fun times under the sheets (though we do see a lot of naked butts during the show lol)…. It’s real.

While I haven’t read the books by Kelley Armstrong that this series is based on, and actually never heard of her or the books before this, if they are anything like the show, I’m sure they’re a hit. That being said, however, I think this is one of those times when the tv show/movie is better than the book. Yes, I said I haven’t read the books, so this is not fact. I just believe that the fight scenes and things are harder to illustrate on the pages of a book than they are on screen.

There are a few characters that I’m not sure about. Jeremy is a great alpha and everything, but sometimes he gets on my nerves with his rules and brooding facial features. He’s a little too stuck in his ways from the past, but I think that’s something he will change as the show goes on. And I’m a little unsure about Nick. While he’s hot and everything, I think the grief he’s going through may cloud his judgment and make me pent on revenge instead of looking at the bigger picture.

Lastly, this show sure knows how to use cliffhangers to its advantage. I wouldn’t be running on 10 hours of sleep between two days if it weren’t for those cliffhangers. They kept making me watch the next one and the next one until I had to force myself to stop and go to sleep! Even that final cliffhanger–boy that was a humdinger–is making me antsy for season 2.

If you have not given this show a shot, I suggest you get a subscription to Netflix, if you don’t already have one, get a hot cup of coffee, get under the blankets, and start watching. You will not regret it.

My Review of Seizing Darkness by Mariana Thorn

Rating: Five out of Five Badges

I have been looking for a book series to hold me over between Darynda Jones’ Grim Reaper books and I think I have found it. This book has the perfect mix of sexual tension, crime fighting, paranormal, and everything in between. I loved the different angle on shifters and the fact that the main characters were weretigers instead of wolves. It was well- written and kept me intrigued through every page. It’s not often that I find a book that I just HAVE TO HAVE THE NEXT BOOK…. RIGHT NOW! But this book has given me that urgent feeling that I never tire of. Due to my personal life and professional life, it took me longer than usual to read the book. However, if I had had more time, chances are I would have finished this within 48 hours because I found it extremely difficult to put it down. A few times I actually had to be forced to stop reading so I could go grocery shopping, write my own book, and more. Thank you, Ms. Thorn, for this wonderful set of characters and wonderful story. I cannot wait for book 2!
