Danica leaned against the doorframe and reflected on the various stages of childhood and adolescence she had gone through while occupying this room. The rainbow-painted walls her mother had painstakingly decorated for her had been replaced with posters of boy bands and television heartthrobs until her mother had died. After the funeral, Danica had come home and removed all the posters in a fit of rage, wanting to be surrounded once more by her mother’s rainbows. The last year she had spent in this room, she had felt comforted by those rainbows, as if her mother’s love had been forever sealed beneath the paintbrush strokes on her walls. “I missed this old place,” she whispered. A sudden rush of cold air moving down the hallway caused Danica to turn away from the bedroom door and peer into the darkness behind her. She took a few steps further down the hall until the aroma of cigar smoke mixed with a hint of brandy wafted in the air around her. Danica remembered that smell. It had always filled her bedroom whenever the dark man would appear. “Is it you?” she softly called into the hallway. “It’s me, Danica. I’ve come back. Just like I said I would.” Danica walked briskly past the entrance to the master bath to the final door at the end of the hall. Without hesitation, she pushed the cypress door open and walked inside the master bedroom. The light from the large picture window overlooking the courtyard shone into the room, accentuating the deep burgundy color of the carpet beneath her feet. She stepped into the center of the room and observed the ceiling fan above. Danica waited, straining with every breath to hear the slightest stirring. “Welcome home,” a man’s wispy voice resonated around her. A hopeful smile curled the edges of Danica’s heart-shaped mouth. “Thank you, Gaston. It’s good to be home.” A few minutes later, Danica returned to the living room, where she found Pat scrolling through messages on her cell phone. “Let’s sign the papers,” Danica happily announced. “I want to get moved in as soon as possible.” Pat gave her a wary going-over with her brown eyes. “You positive about this, Danica? I need to make sure you’re aware that other tenants have had problems—” “It’s fine, Pat. I know you said the place is haunted and people have had some bad experiences, but this….” Danica waved to the room around her. “Just feels right.” Pat gave a skeptical shrug. “I have the papers ready back at the office. The rent is eight hundred and fifty a month. Mr. Caruso wanted me to charge you the same rate he charged your father. He insisted I make this as appealing to you as possible. You must have made quite an impression on the old man when you were a kid. He never cuts anyone a deal.” “Please tell Mr. Caruso I appreciate it.” Pat replaced her cell phone in her front jacket pocket. “Let’s turn off all of these lights and head back to the office.” Suddenly, from the shuttered window beside them, three loud knocks reverberated across the room. Pat grabbed at her chest. “Jesus! What in the hell was that?”

Pick it up today. You won’t regret it.

Review of A Million Dirty Secrets by CL Parker

17620964Mature audiences ONLY!

Rating: B

This book was wonderful, though I’m dying to know the rest. First, before the full review, here is the description.

For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You comes a wickedly erotic new novel of innocence, desire, and unbridled pleasure.

Delaine Talbot has a secret. When a matter of life and death threatens to tear apart her family, Delaine makes the ultimate sacrifice. She auctions herself off at Chicago’s most exclusive erotic club. Now she belongs to Noah Crawford, a wealthy mogul who introduces her to a seductive feast of the senses, awakening desires she only dreamed about.

Noah doesn’t know why Delaine sold her body for a cool two mil. But it’s the perfect business arrangement. The inexperienced beauty will learn to satisfy his every sensual need, yet never touch his heart. Almost immediately their relationship generates heat—in more ways than one. When they fight, they take no prisoners. When they love, they show no mercy. When they’re together, they never want to leave each other’s arms. But soon, their intense, physical bond will take an unexpected turn—evolving into something neither has bargained for: the promise of a lasting love.

Praise for A Million Dirty Secrets

“Erotica is at its best in the opener to Parker’s Million Dollar Duet series. Super-sexy with snappy dialogue, this wonderful Cinderella tale begins the search for Lanie and Noah’s happily-ever-after. . . . The sequel cannot arrive fast enough.”RT Book Reviews (4-1/2 stars)
“Smoldering sex scenes and a cliffhanger ending will have erotica fans panting for more.”Publishers Weekly

“This book has some yummy scenes. The chemistry is absolutely there, the back and forth bantering, the punishments, and the tender moments. . . . I am looking forward to the next one for sure as we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger . . . man I hate (love love love) that!”The Reading Cafe
“Explosive . . . with sex, lust, love and secrets . . . If I had to sum this story up in three words, they would be thrilling, dangerous and addictive. If you like E L James then you will love this new erotic duet novel from C. L. Parker.”23 Review Street

A Million Dirty Secrets is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

Now, first off: I think comparing this book to 50 Shades is cruel, because it is ten times better than 50. While the characters did a few things-sexually-that I didn’t particularly like (that’s personal preference, and not something against the author or the story itself, and has no effect on the rating) I really enjoyed the erotic story line. It’s nice to see an Erotica that doesn’t have anything to do with werewolves or vampires (well, except Delanie’s sexual fantasy with Noah, but you’ll have to read it to know more about that). The main character, Delanie (Lanie) Talbot is sarcastic, funny, and has an attitude. But, at the same time, she’s experiencing so many new things in her life, that she has fear, apprehension, and worry mixed in. She is reminiscent of Charley Davidson in the grave books by Darynda Jones. Speaking of Mrs. Jones, the writing in this book was obviously inspired by Darynda’s writing, but has CL Parker’s own little twist to it. There were times in the book when I thought that Lanie and Charley could have been sisters, separated at birth. Now, as for Noah… Well, I was back and forth on him for a while, but in the end I had fallen for him just as hard as everyone else had. He’s an arrogant pain in the ass with an attitude, but he’s a sweet one, with air of romance that just makes you swoon; hard. I’m looking forward to reading more Lanie and Noah.

Pick up A Million Dirty Secrets by CL Paker; you won’t be sorry.

Death and the Girl He Loves by Darynda Jones Tour

Death and the Girl He Loves Blog Tour BannerBlurb

The fate of the world is not something a girl wants on her shoulders, and that is especially true for Lorelei McAlister. Unfortunately for her, that is exactly where the world’s fate has decided to take up residence. Lorelei has seen firsthand the horrors that lie beneath our everyday world. And those horrors are getting her friends killed. Because of this, she agrees to leave the sanctity of her hometown and is sent to a different world entirely. A boarding school. But even here she is being watched. Someone knows what she is. What she carries inside her soul. And on top of that she’s seeing visions. This is nothing new for Lorelei. But these visions are something more: death, destruction, and the end of the world. Lorelei must face the fact that there are people who want her dead, and no matter where she goes, no matter how far she runs, the lives of her friends and family are in mortal peril. Lucky for her, her friends and family include the handsome Angel of Death, a fiercely protective half-angel, and a ragtag group of loyal supporters who aren’t afraid to get a little dirty in the name of fighting pure evil.

I thought about the fact that I would soon be on a plane headed home. The feeling gave me that extra push I needed to plod onward. I could do this.

Ten feet.

I patted my jacket pocket, where I’d stashed my money. It

would be enough for a ticket. It had to be. I didn’t have time

to take a bus. I needed to get back fast. The world was about

to end.

I began to tiptoe as I got closer to the guard house. The

gate beyond it was closed, but I was not above climbing over

the fence and hurling my body into the darkness on the

other side. With infinite care, I inched up to the lit guardhouse

and peeked in. No one was in it. All that worry for

The night guard was probably making rounds or something.

I had no idea, really, but it sounded logical that part

of his job would be to make rounds. With fate smiling upon

me, I hurried to the shadows of the fence beside the gate. I

could never have climbed up the gate itself. It was a massive

iron thing with long, menacing bars. Much like a jail cell.

There was nothing to grab on to, and the tops of the bars

were sharp and pointy. I would impale myself if I even attempted

it. They would find my lifeless body the next morning,

dangling from a spike.

Why I had to think such things at a time like this was

beyond me. Crystal told me she’d heard about kids climbing

over the fence using the hinges for leverage. I tried to throw

my bag over first, but I couldn’t quite get the distance I

needed. That fence was at least fifteen feet high. I managed

about three. Possibly four. And it hurt when it came back

down. So I threw it back over my shoulder and proceeded to

climb. Or, I thought about climbing until I heard a snicker

in the dark beside me.

My foot slipped and I almost fell before I turned around

and saw a male figure standing off to the side, his silhouette

actually a little lighter than the shadow he was in. This was

not happening.

Dual Review: The Master of Whitehall and Lexi’s Legacy by Rick Veal

1569848318176624Ok, first of all, I’m sorry this review took so long to be posted, but I wanted to review both books in the series at the same time.

Before I give my review, here are the descriptions of each book.

The Master of Whitehall

After the brutal murder of her parents in a robbery, Katelyn Corbin, a thoroughly modern 21 year old college senior, finds herself attempting to re-start her life in Charleston, SC, where she finds love, healing and a brand new life in a most unexpected avenue.

This story follows Katelyn from her hometown just outside Atlanta to her new school in Charleston. There she meets James and is deeply intrigued by him from their first meeting; feeling as if he has touched her very soul. The more she considers him, the more intense her interest becomes. He is a wealthy patron of the arts, especially at her school. He is tall and handsome with a strong persona; a young widower, living alone in a huge, but beautifully restored old plantation house called ‘Whitehall’. Their friendship soon becomes serious, becoming a full on relationship as Katelyn falls madly in love with him. James soon makes his love for her just as obvious. Their lives begin to blend, twisting and turning, as they continue to grow closer.

After several strange incidents, Katelyn begins to develop a series of unsettling questions about her new love. However, she knows that after facing the catastrophe of her parent’s deaths, she can face anything life throws at her. She begins looking at the questions, searching her own soul. Finally deciding that she must know the answers, she confronts him. She soon discovers James’ true nature; confirming her fears that he was indeed not the man she thought, but the man she feared him to be. The confirmation of her suspicions are shocking to her, turning her world view on its side. She is forced to acknowledge things about herself and her world that she never thought possible. With her new found knowledge, Katelyn realizes she must make a choice to live with or without James. She quickly decides to adapt her life and adjust her beliefs in order to continue to be with James.

Their love for each other develops and continues to grow as he assists her to close the gaping wounds left by the tragedy of her parent’s murders. Katelyn continues to uncover other secrets, discovering another existence, as she begins her new life with James. The story reaches a highly emotional and completely unexpected ending that fully illustrates Katelyn’s personality of love and care for those around her.

The Master of Whitehall, a paranormal romance novel is complete at 104,000 words. The story unfolds over the course of nearly a year, and features flashbacks that more fully develop each of the characters, offering insights into their personal histories. The story is narrated in first person perspective by Katelyn as she offers a window into the world of possibilities of love between mortal and immortal.

The Master of Whitehall will be very appealing to readers of Rachel Caine’s ‘Morganville Vampires’, Charlaine Harris’ ‘True Blood’ series, and Anne Rice’s ‘Vampire Chronicles’.

Lexi’s Legacy

Lexi’s Legacy, a contemporary adventure romance set in Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA., is the second book in the continuing saga of The Master of Whitehall.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Lexi discovers an unexpected cure from an unlikely source and two best friends become eternal friends. Lexi tells her tale of life, lost and found, relating her experiences as she leaves behind her human life and begins her journey into a new immortal life.
She recounts the changes that take place as she enters a supernatural world she never knew existed, joining Katelyn and James at Whitehall Plantation.
Lexi has much to learn about her new world as she grows and matures into the life of a vampire. Join her as she takes you on an adventure of life changing proportions. Let her tell you about how her life changes, about love … found … lost … and found again.
Lexi’s Legacy is an exciting and enjoyable adventure in the on-going epic of The Master of Whitehall.

Ok, now on to my review…

Sigh, I wanted to love these books, I really did, because the unique use of Paranormal was refreshing… However, I found several moments during my reading that I just wanted to skip ahead, because I was so bored. I’m not really sure of the reason, to be honest, because they are well written books-though, to be honest, I enjoyed book 2 much more than book 1- but unfortunately it was hard to get past those moments. I feel that the author, especially after book 2, has great potential, but these books just didn’t do it for me. Of course, it’s possible that that was just my opinion, because we all like different things. It’s hard for me to give specifics without giving too much away, so I’ll leave you with this… While it wasn’t my interest, for the most part, don’t ignore these books and the author. No matter how many negative reviews you see, if you are interested in the book, go for it. Like I said, it is well written, and has a unique twist on vampires…Because of this fact, both books get an average rating of a B (4 stars) together.
