The Blurb:

Separated at birth…reunited by murder. Behind the gates of an exclusive Lake City neighborhood, prominent businessman Don Chu’s housekeeper has been brutally murdered and his teenage daughter taken. The high-profile case has the Mayor himself sending the case across Detective Stan Brookshire’s desk. He barely has time to digest the details of the two sinister crimes before he’s called to yet another disturbing scene. This time, at the other end of the city, another murder and attempted kidnapping ring out with a similarity too convenient for coincidence. As the clues fall into place and the evidence mounts, Stan starts to see a pattern emerge. A DNA match, and the two cases now become one. With the help of an unexpected young ally, Stan begins his search for a victim that may still be alive. It’s a race against the clock and across the globe that will test his skills to the absolute limit. Two murders. Two kidnappings. Twice the danger.

The Excerpt:

A loud noise startled Jade from her slight doze. As she straightened up in her chair, she glanced at the clock on her bedside table across the room that held her textbooks. Eleven thirty-five.

Leaning back at her desk, she reached over and felt the bowl of soup Wei-Lee, the family housekeeper, had brought. It had been piping hot but now it was tepid. She estimated she was out less than half an hour.

Another crash came from the direction of the kitchen. What on earth was Wei-Lee doing at this time of night to make that much noise?

Jade started to get up when the door to her room flew open and two almost identical Asian men burst into her room. Grabbing her before she could make a sound, her feet lashed out and knocked the books to the floor as they dragged her toward the door.

“You’re coming with us,” one of the men said in a thick, Chinese accent. “You can either come quietly or we’ll drag you out.”

“There’s no way I’m letting you take me anywhere!” she yelled, struggling against them. Their grip loosened and this time she racked her nails across one man’s cheek. Crying out in pain, he released her arm to protect his face.

She ran out of the bedroom and down the stairs hoping to find Wei-Lee or something to defend herself. Jade heard them running after her. Chancing a glance over her shoulder, she saw they were right behind her as she raced through the house trying to get to the kitchen.

She was almost there when a man stepped out of the doorway, into her path. He was Asian but what caught her attention was the knife in his hand. Red liquid dripped from it onto the tile floor. She managed to duck around him and into the kitchen where she was halted at the sight of Wei-Lee. She lay dead in a slowly spreading pool of blood.

A hand grabbed her shoulder and tried to spin her around. Her reflexes drove her forward, jumping over the housekeeper’s body she dove for the cordless phone to dial 911. She managed to dial two digits before the phone was knocked out of her hand and it went flying across the floor.

Rough hands grabbed her and tore her clothing as she tried to get away. It was useless. They were too strong. It was too much for her. The sight of the dead housekeeper, the men in her house…the blood. There was so much blood.

A hand reached up and put a cloth over her mouth, she fought against it but it was no use. She had no strength left. As her world faded to darkness the last thing she heard was, “Do not hurt her. Ling will not be happy if she is harmed.”

Normal people sneak out to a party and have fun. Maya Rao ends the evening by incinerating the guy who attacks her.

Nik Lucas, sexy, new in town and totally forbidden, happens to walk in on her. Normal guys would run for the hills. Nik knows a whole lot more than he’s telling.

Maya doesn’t believe the gods are real, doesn’t waste her time with mere mythology. But when gods, demons and hellhound’s become the new normal and wielding fire becomes her new skill, she must decide what it is she really believes.

Can Maya accept that normal is something she will never be because it isn’t normal to be …the Hand of Kali.

Fear spun Maya around on stricken feet. To defend her back perhaps. She just felt less vulnerable facing her attacker, where she could see his next move. He barreled straight at her. And for all her training in martial arts, she did the one thing her dad always said never to do. She ducked her head and hid her face with her hands. Hands out, as if she could fend off this vicious attacker merely with the soft skin of her palms.

Maya felt the heat before she saw it.

Byron was on fire. A living column of shimmering orange flames. She couldn’t breathe. Was afraid to breathe. How did that happen? She glanced around the bathroom as panic filled her veins, her fear taking on a whole new level of hysteria. She had to put the fire out.

She turned to the faucet to fill her hands with water. And froze. In the mirror she saw the burning reflection of Byron disappear. Byron was there one moment and gone the next. Only a few burnt shards of fabric left to say he was ever there. But she remembered the last thing she’d seen before Byron became nothing: brilliant blue eyes turning a frighteningly blood-red.

And Nik, holding the doorknob, staring at the empty space on the floor behind her.

I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are actually my friends, my tea-makers, my confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate supporters of each other’s loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.

Review of Beautiful Downfall by Scarlett Jade

Camille Taylor’s life fell apart after the tragic accident that haunts her every waking moment. She became a recluse, only looking forward to each day with the hope of having those dreams… A handsome man with dark hair and wicked eyes visits her at night, keeping her company as she struggles to get past the sudden death of her beloved parents. There is something undeniable about him. She is drawn to the mysterious man like a moth to a flame. This couldn’t be insanity, but it can’t be real, either… Casey Philips has his own damaged past that put him in a delicate situation. He is an angel working for redemption, and has been watching over Camille since that horrible day where her mother and father were stolen away. It’s all God’s plan, they are fine and well now, but the task of helping this lovely human get past her grief to move on in her life is quickly taking a wrong turn. She’s stunning and plays the key role in his every thought. Angels aren’t suppose to fall in love with their clients. If he continues he could lose everything and fall from God’s good graces. But if he stops he will lose the most important person in his life. With every thing on the line, Casey and Camille set out on a life-altering adventure to discover if love really can overcome anything.

Wow, just from the very first paragraph I was hooked! It was so powerful and descriptive that it drew me in like a bee to nectar. The description of the accident was so well written that I felt like I had lost my own parents. While the religious/ heaven elements weren’t something I normally like (different beliefs than the author- nothing wrong with that), the author was able to write it in a way that even swayed me. The characters were all incredibly loveable in their own ways; Camille is a beautiful young woman with a heart that needs healing, Casey is a bad-ass angel who needed his own kind of healing, and Sarah was bubbly and happy; the perfect fix to both of their problems. It was easy to lose my heart for each of the characters, because they were all easy to love. In fact, I loved them so much that I couldn’t put it down; I HAD to know what the outcome was and couldn’t go to sleep until I did. I was even a little disappointed when I read the last sentence; I was dying for more and I hope the author continues this series. But, even if she doesn’t, I will continue to read her books, because I am adding her to my all-time favorite authors list.

Review of Reaching Out to You by S. Moose

Adam and Sophia were best friends but when tragedy strikes it’s more than Adam can handle and he leaves Sophia alone in the dark.

Four years later, Adam and Sophia are reunited and the sparks between them return but is it too late?

Sophia is happy again and has let go of the darkness. She has great friends and a sweet boyfriend name Kyle. Now that Adam is back how will she be able to balance her boyfriend and her best friend?

The darkness always finds you again but will Adam be able to save her or leave her again?

While this was a little show, it kept me intrigued. It was dramatic and grabbed the heart. I went on a roller coaster of emotions while I read this book; sad, sympathetic, love, fear, hurt, anger, happy, sexy, and finally content. It was very well written.

Review of Take Me Out by Danielle Elwood

Charlotte grew up in the Boston socialite spotlight with a silver spoon.
Bentley grew up on the wrong side of the tracks with an alcoholic mother.
A chance meeting at a Red Sox baseball game will change both of their lives forever.

But will their relationship stand the test of ex-lovers, arson, and Charlotte’s parents?

Join the gang for a Boston whirlwind romance no one will ever forget.

Okay, so there were a few editing issues, but I definitely do not agree with the 1 star reviews I’ve read. While I don’t agree with the 5 star also, I am going to give it 4 stars because I really enjoyed it. It was a nice debut story. There are a few areas that could use improvement; sentence structure and description for example. However, that is something with which authors learn to improve as they grow. This is a story that show that “love looks not with the eyes (or ears), but with the heart”. The characters face so much in their relationship that you almost want to stand up and cheer for them each time they survive another obstacle. I hope this author keep writing, because- with a little improvement- she could be a 5 star author. I hope she doesn’t give up. After all, even Nora Roberts got, and still gets, some bad reviews. But, she hasn’t quit and neither should this author.

Review of Wind Warrior by Jon Messenger

Wind Warrior Ebook

The sleepy town of White Halls harbors a dangerous secret. On a picturesque street, two houses down from a lovely little park, in a quaint little home with a wraparound porch, lives a family that seems rather normal. Sure, their twenty-year-old son, Xander, still lives at home, but he’s going to college and dating the leader of the schools top sorority. It’s all very… normal. However, when a man is miraculously saved from being hit by a bus, Xander’s life turns in to the living embodiment of the tornadoes he can suddenly create with a flick of his wrist. Whether he wants this gift or not, Xander must learn to use his new ‘super power’ quickly if he wants to survive. For his kind is a dying race, and when this sleepy town has a sudden influx of new, blonde, fire wielders, no one is safe, especially Xander. It doesn’t help that one of these blondes happens to be the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Xander can’t deny the instant connection he feels to her so, when she tries to kill him, it certainly makes things complicated.

This was a powerful fantasy. It was mysterious and intriguing, but it was also very well-written. It was done in such a realistic way that it was hard to remember that it was Fiction. I loved the different concept of Xander being a wind warrior. The wind is a strong and unpredictable element with the power of hundreds, and the author really highlighted it well. I loved this book and hope to see a sequel in the future.

Interview of Author Scarlett Jade

Welcome to the laboratory, Scarlett. Thank you for being my guest today. Why don’t we start by telling the folks a little about you?

I’m a country girl at heart who is happily married to her own Prince Charming with one little boy that is the joy of my life.

I’m a country girl at heart too and always will be. When and why did you start writing?

I started writing at ten years old and have never stopped. Reading and writing has always been an escape for me. I have lived a thousand different lives through my books.

Wow, that was young. Seems like you’re right where you’re supposed to be. Who is your favorite author and why?

My favorite author is M. Leighton. I adored her Blood like Poison series. She writes from her heart with great characters and passion. I’m also a fan of many other authors, both present day and past, but she sticks out most in my mind.

Do you feel that M. Leighton inspired your writing? Do you feel that your writing is modeled after him/her?

I think that I try to coax out emotion from my characters in a similar way to her, yes.

Emotion can be very tricky. I haven’t read your book yet, but I’m sure you accomplished your goal. What do you hope to accomplish with your writing?

I want to prove to my son and to myself that you can do anything you set your mind to. It isn’t about becoming a bestselling author. It is about telling a story.

Traditional or self publishing and why?

Self publishing because I prefer to control my work.

Tell us about your most recent book and why we should love or hate your characters.

My most recent book is Beautiful Downfall. I think that my characters all have good souls and will be liked. There is Sarah, who is incredibly magnetic and fun, Casey, who fights with himself, his morals, and finally Camille, who just wants to be loved.

If your book had a soundtrack, what is the first 5 songs you would include?

“Love Song” – Adele

“All I Wanted” – Paramore

“Wonderwall” – Oasis

“Somebody” – Bonnie Mckee

“Apologies” – Grace Potter and The Nocturnals

Aside from writing or reading, what is your favorite pastime?

I love to cook, I’m very passionate about making a wonderful meal, it is how I show love.

I love to cook too. It’s so much fun to experiment with food. What is the one thing you want to do, or the one place you want to go, that you would put at #1 on your bucket list?

I want to travel to Europe and sight see for days.

Finally, what else would you like readers to know?

I’m passionate about writing and my fans, I love meeting new people and I just hope that my books bring you joy.

Thank you, again, for being my guest. I really enjoyed getting to know you. I can not wait to read your book!

Review of Love’s Second Chance by L.P Dover

Korinne Anders had it all. She had the perfect job, the perfect house, and the perfect husband. When tragedy strikes, her world takes a devastating turn. Six months after losing her husband to a car accident, Korinne vows it to herself never to love again. If she doesn’t allow another man in her heart, then there’s no reason for her to feel the pain of loss. This plan seems to work, but is put to the test when Korinne’s best friend can’t stand to see her suffering any longer. Korinne’s long-time friend, Jenna Perry, has an idea and it involves helping her friend find the spark of life in her soul no matter what it takes. Korinne didn’t know that Jenna’s plan meant bringing back a past love, a second chance with the man that Korinne had to leave in college, but always kept a place for in her heart. When Galen Matthews learns of Korinne’s loss and that she’s finally moved back home, he wants nothing more than to be there for her. The love he felt for Korinne years ago has never left him, and now he’s given a second chance to not only mend her heart of her loss, but to also continue the love they shared in the past. Will his love and determination make her strong enough to give fate a second chance, or will her fear of losing another love make her run away? What will Korinne do when she’s faced with a love so powerful that no matter what she does there’s nowhere to run from it?

While I was missing some more of the back and forth between the couple and the hesitation of getting involved, I found this book very good. It was extremely erotic and romantic. It took me on a mountain of emotions; sadness, anger, romance, etc. It was very well-written and I enjoyed it very much. I fell in love with the characters easily and quickly, because I wanted them to be happy. I think this is every woman’s dream and I was very satisfied with the way the author wrote it.

6526309Author Bio

I am an avid reader that loves my collection of books. Writing has always been a passion of mine and now I am glad that I get to share my passion with the world. I live in North Carolina and I absolutely love being a southern girl. I spent several years in college starting out with a major in Psychology and then switching to dental. I worked in the dental field for eight years and then decided to stay home with my two beautiful girls. I spent the beginning of my reading years reading suspense thrillers, but now I can’t get away from the paranormal/fantasy books. I knew ever since then that if I wrote anything it would be in a paranormal aspect. Now that I have started on my passion and began writing, you will not see me go anywhere without a notebook and pen.

With each determined step, I made my way over to the man that was beginning to steal my heart … again. Fear and desire coincided within me, but I couldn’t stop. I knew I shouldn’t let him in, but I couldn’t deny the way my heart was beating for this man. It was as if all of my desires, all of the pent up emotions and feelings in my body had me desperate for this man’s touch, Galen’s touch. The man I fell in love with years ago. His eyes grew wider the closer I got, but I knew I wasn’t going to back down. I needed to feel him in every way possible, and I needed it then. In one swift move I crushed my lips to his and wrapped my arms around his neck, holding him tight. His arms engulfed me, protecting me in his embrace, but also unsure of what to do.

“What are you doing?” he groaned, breaking away from the kiss. “I thought you wanted to take things slow.”

A fire so hot burned behind those pale blue eyes of his, and I knew taking things slow wasn’t going to happen. “I don’t think I can,” I breathed against his lips.

“Please don’t say that. I don’t think I can control myself if you let me in. I’ve wanted you from the moment I saw you, and it’s already hard enough to keep my distance.”

“I don’t want you to keep your distance.” I sighed. “I need you, Galen, and I need you now.” Those words were all it took for the fire to consume him, to consume us both.
