Pumpkin Coffee Taste Test!

It’s Autumn and the pumpkin craze has already begun. While Starbucks was the first one to ever introduce a pumpkin flavored coffee, it has become extremely popular and has branched out to other companies as well. That being said, how do you know which one is the best? Well, I thought about it and decided that I was going to do a Pumpkin Coffee Taste Test so I could bring y’all those answers. While there are others brands and companies out there that offer pumpkin flavored coffees, there are only 5 companies included in this taste test.

First: Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice Coffee

After going to the casino one night, I stopped at a nearby Savvon gas station and got myself a medium pumpkin coffee for the drive home. I didn’t expect much out of it, because I don’t normally like Green Mountain coffees. However, as I took that first warm sip, I was pleasantly surprised. Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice coffee is wonderful. It has a great, decadent pumpkin flavor. It’s a flavored coffee, versus a flavor shot or anything like that. The pumpkin to coffee ratio was perfection and made me crave a second and third cup. Now, keep in mind that the Savvon gas station is at least 30-45 minutes from where I live… However, I would make the drive for another cup of this delicious concoction.

Second: Starbucks Pumpkin Latte

Like I said before, Starbucks was the first one to introduce this wonderful thing to its customers, and I can see why. It is creamy, sweet, and delicious. While it is the most expensive ($4.19 for a tall- which is basically a medium at other stores), it is worth the money if you can afford to sacrifice those 4 dollar bills in your wallet for a delicious cup of coffee. The combination of pumpkin and coffee is perfect, in my opinion, even though there is more pumpkin flavor than coffee. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for hardcore coffee drinkers who like that taste of coffee more than anything, because it IS a latte and, therefore, has very little actual coffee flavor.

Third: Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Flavor Shot

Okay, the first thing that you must understand about Dunkin Donuts is that their pumpkin flavoring is a flavor shot and not just a pumpkin flavored coffee. That being said, you can get it in all sorts of coffee imaginable– I, however, got it in a small hot coffee with sugar. Even so, I had to add 3 sugar packets, because it was a bit bitter before that. There is very little pumpkin flavoring, and I would classify it more as cinnamon than pumpkin. That being said, it is still not last in the list.

Fourth: Coffee-mate Pumpkin Spice Creamer

WARNING: When using this creamer, please have a light hand! The amount of spice in this creamer (which includes anise, which I don’t associate with pumpkin pie, so that’s just flat out wrong) overpowers anything else. It tastes fine as you sip, but as soon as you swallow it’s like swallowing a mouth full of spice… It burns the throat. Furthermore, I would suggest drinking water in between each sip. Otherwise, it gets stuck to the palate. If Coffee-mate got rid of the anise spice and adding just a touch more pumpkin, it would be perfect.

Last: McDonald’s Pumpkin Spice Latte

McDonald’s Pumpkin Spice Latte……………………………………………………………………………………………………….Who classified this as a PUMPKIN spice latte? There is very very little pumpkin flavoring… In fact, I would have to say that there is NO pumpkin flavoring, until the very last sip. Even after stirring the drink, I still tasted nothing but disgusting creamer. You might as well have served me milk with some bitter boring “flavor” in it. This was no where near as good as the others. I will NEVER again order this or any other coffee drink from McDonald’s unless they up their game. I know they are a fast food restaurant, but if you’re going to offer something like this to your customers, at least attempt to make it taste good. I mean, the came in last! After a coffee creamer that made me choke! Do NOT waste the 2 dollars and 60 some odd cents that it costs to buy this “coffee”.

So, now we know the answers. While there are other brands of Pumpkin Flavored coffees out there- like Godiva, Gevalia, etc- this is how these 5 varieties rank. Of course, it’s always a matter of opinion, so I would love to hear your comments on the matter. I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if you’d like me to do more taste tests on other products and such in the future! ❤
